The reflexology most of you will have heard of the wonderful health benefits of reflexology. However, it is important to have a 'A-Z' definition of reflexology before you start a treatment.

Taking a medical history

Finding out someone's medical history is just as important as understanding why they wish to receive treatment, because it can shed light on their current condition.

All conditions have a symptom pattern; this means that there are certain things you do to aggravate the disease and other things that can make it better.

For example, coffee can make inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema worse.

Knowing this, the reflexologist could adapt a treatment to pay particular attention to the liver and kidney reflexes, as well as suggesting that you avoid coffee and see whether your eczema gradually calms down. Taking your medical history will also enable them to check for any contra-indications.

Treatment plan
The information from your medical history will be the foundation of your treatment plan.
Work out how often your should receive treatments: it may involve daily, three-times-a-week or weekly sessions.
Your treatment will also focus on the areas where stress is most evident in the body, and the reflexologist will plan out the reflexes that relate to those body areas.
